Old concrete can often be coated, but the condition of the slab decides the preparation and repair scope.
Age is not the main question
Older concrete can be a workable substrate if it is sound. The more important questions are contamination, coatings, cracks, moisture and surface strength.
Existing paint and sealers
Old coatings need to be assessed for compatibility and adhesion. In many cases they are mechanically removed so the new system can bond to prepared concrete.
Cracks and movement
Some cracks can be repaired as part of preparation, but active movement and joints need to be treated appropriately. A coating should not be used to hide structural movement.
Moisture needs attention
Moisture conditions can affect coating performance. Signs of dampness, hydrostatic pressure or previous failure should be investigated before installation.
